Celebratory Gala is Being Held in Downtown Sunnyvale

On March 1, Homestead High School in Sunnyvale will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a gala at the historic Del Monte Building in downtown Sunnyvale. There will be good food, good wine, and an auction that will help raise money for the school. Auction items will include Sharks and 49er tickets, as well as parties donated by school parents. Auction winners can designate which department, sport, or club they would like their donation to support. The Humane Society Silicon Valley is combining with Silicon Valley and Sunnyvale veterinarians to offer discounted spaying and neutering in an effort to reduce the number of unwanted cat and dog litters. Through the month of February, cats are only $50, dogs under 50 lbs. are $80, and dogs over 50 lbs. are $100. Your pet need not have been adopted from the Humane Society to qualify for the discount. A recent CNBC article written by Diana Olick showed the home owners are tapping into home equity once again. This was a very popular option during the booming market when home prices were skyrocketing upward. This time, however, the movement seems much more careful and prudent. Moody's Investors Services recently granted the city of Sunnyvale a fantastic credit rating of Aaa. Sunnyvale is one of only eight California cities to be granted Moody’s highest credit rating. Other notable cities include Beverly Hills, Newport Beach, and Palo Alto. Moody’s decided to evaluate more than 30 California cities due to the state’s struggling financial crisis. Inman news recently reported that the “Number of homes in foreclosure down 19.5 percent from a year ago.” They reported on two categories: the number of homes in the foreclosure process and the number of homes actually lost to foreclosure. The number of completed foreclosures in December was 56,000, 21% lower than this time last year. The number of homes in the process of foreclosure in December was 1.2M, down 19.5% compared to that time last year. Even with incredibly low inventory, single-family home prices in the Bay Area showed a huge spike in December. Overall, the median sale price in the nine-county Bay Area rose almost 25% year over year in December according to real estate data reporters DataQuick.The median sales price of Bay Area homes was $470,000, up from $380,000 a year ago December. The last time the median sales price rose faster in Silicon Valley was almost three years ago in May 2010.
